MARK PEKIN

ISM is excited to host IASAS Rugby and Touch 2024. We look forward to an exciting competition with friendly interactions and competitive rivalry between all IASAS teams.

Congratulations to all team members on the hard work and dedication you have demonstrated to be selected for your school’s team. The results of your preparation and efforts will be reflected in your individual and teams’ performance over the next three days. In any competition it is often the mental preparation on match day that is so important. Can you be and give your best on that day? That is the question that will be asked of you during the days ahead. My hope is that all of you will be able to find your “best form” and be able to sit at the closing ceremony happy with your individual performance and your contribution to the team.

IASAS values sportsmanship. It is important to cheer hard and loud for your own team and also to appreciate the great performances that you will see from your fellow competitors. Genuine congratulations and appreciation of great sporting effort(s) from individuals on opposing teams is a true reflection of an “athlete”.

I would like to give a special thanks to all the ISM families that have volunteered to house the IASAS Rugby & Touch athletes. The hosting of athletes and parental support to open your homes is greatly appreciated by all schools and remains a cornerstone of what makes IASAS special. I would also like to recognize and give my special thanks to all those that have helped with the planning, organization and running of this IASAS event.

I wish all IASAS athletes, visiting parents and coaches the very best and hope that you enjoy the season 2 IASAS Rugby & Touch Championships in Manila.

Dear IASAS Rugby & Touch Participants,

On behalf of everyone at International School Manila, a very warm welcome to our campus and to IASAS Rugby/Touch 2024. We hope the next three days will be enjoyable and your IASAS experience is filled with fun, friendships and fantastic memories to take with you when you leave.

IASAS is always one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the school calendar. We are so excited to welcome a new generation of athletes to our school and hope you enjoy the kinship and camaraderie that is the hallmark of IASAS.

IASAS events are always the same and always different. They are filled with hope, despair, elation and frustration, but they are characterized by a unity and togetherness that sets them apart. Irrespective of whether you are returning IASAS participant or experiencing IASAS for the very first time, those of you who are here today have an important place in the history of this amazing organization.

Thank you to all our host families for so generously welcoming our visitors into your homes. Home stays are an integral part of IASAS and we are grateful to our community for their support. Thanks also to Mark Pekin, our Athletics Director who has put so much work into this tournament and to his assistants Andy, Rhyss and Pam. Thanks also to Lito, Arnel, Jojo, Lito, Rod and Ronald,, our ATAC assistants, for their hard work in making sure that everything runs smoothly.

On Sunday, when you are able to relax and reflect on your time in Manila, I hope you do so with a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. I hope you feel that you played to the best of your ability and are able to look back with pride and satisfaction at what you contributed to your team and for your school.

Have a great tournament!
